Before I doze-off-which I am close to doing, and thus will allow myself to do-I decided to post that I have canceled & got my refunds for the PortCon trip. I am holding-on-to the money though, as I am still planning-on going to America this Summer. I am sending my online!application off tomorrow[need to ask what my father's name and birthplace is/was--yes I dont know if he is even alive...]. That will take about 10 business days to get processed. Then I can cross the border. I am still depressed over my original certificate `disapearing. Also about no PortCon2008. Talking to Armadei last night helped a whole lot though. So now the tentative plan is around July 17th, I will take the ferry to Portland, then stay the night with either Armadei's relatives or in a motel/hotel, then take the Amtrak(sp?) to Boston. Now depending on where Armie is, I would then either go to upstate New York or to New Hampshire. I still have the money (minus $34 as I bought groceries today, since I am not leaving in a week now) :3

I don't know if you've been following my discussion with Kun or not, but unless something changes before Monday, I'll be traveling back to New Hampshire with Kun after PortCon and staying until 21 July.

Kun: "I honestly want to say that we should wait to see about whether or not both of you come here at any point until I know how I'm feeling at that point. Obviously, the problem is that I won't know until that moment. And I realize that there's no way in hell that we can wait that long to decide.
Would it be a problem for you guys to find a way for Sarah to get straight down to NY rather than NH? I'm just unsure about this summer for so many reaons."

If you're willing to move your departure date back a week, you could come on the 24th and stay in upstate New York for however long you were planning (two weeks?). I can talk to my parents about the possibility of picking you up in Boston. Otherwise, you could take the bus or Amtrak.

The Amtrak from Boston to Albany would cost $28. If you book the Portland - Boston and the Boston - Albany trains together, it would be $52. However, you have no flexibility of times -- the direct line from Boston to Albany only runs once per day; otherwise, you have to transfer through New York City, which would be both longer and more expensive.

If you go this route, the schedule would be: depart Portland 8:15 AM, arrive Boston North Station 10:40 AM, transfer Boston North to Boston Back Bay from 10:55 AM to 11:05 AM, depart Boston Back Bay at 12:05 PM, arrive Albany at 5:35 PM.

As far as I know, all major Amtrak trains have dining cars, though I've no idea how expensive they are.

[There are three Amtrak stations in Boston: North, South, and Back Bay. From Portland, you can get to either North or South; Albany departs from South and Back Bay.]

The bus would cost $37; it's located in the Boston South Station. It runs more often than the trains.

(Even if you don't end up using the buses or trains to come down to New York, you might on the way back.)

That week is even better. So I will take the ferry the 23rd. Have you asked if I can stay with anyone over-night? I haue a on-hold booking now for the Amtrak for Portland-->Albany train. I will wait though till you work-out more with your parents and such. Would your mom talk to June sometime Sunday or Monday?

If you stayed at my grandparents', you'd have to take the earliest ferry back to the mainland (6:15 AM; you'd have to leave their house around 5:50/6 AM, depending on how fast you walk) in order to make the Amtrak on time. It takes about twenty-five minutes to reach Portland from Peaks Island and the ferry only leaves once an hour. You might be able to make the Amtrak if you left on the 7:15 AM ferry, but that'd be pushing it.

Kate would probably be the best bet since she's on the mainland. However, I've no idea what her schedule's like or if she'd be willing to room someone she's never met; I'll email her.

My mum can talk to June tomorrow (Sunday). However, she doesn't get home from church until 4 PM and usually makes dinner after that, so we'd probably be calling around 7 PM at the earliest. She works Monday night. If that won't work, she's not working this Tuesday.

I hope I'll be mostly recovered from Kun's by then (we've been getting better!), but I might not, so if I randomly start crying the first few days you're here, that's why.

Edit: Emailed Kate. I'll let you know what she says.

Also, to reply to other entries, I would support seeing Waya in a mall if you felt up to it. ^^ (His outfit's not as weird as some and his clothes are fairly normal.)

And not allowing you to use credit cards on public computers is fairly normal; public computers aren't the most secure and you have a higher chance of having your number stolen.

I will wait to see what your aunt Kate says, if not is there a relatively cheap motel/hotel I can stay at not too far away?

If you cry atleast I will be there with hugs. But try not to cry after I leave, because I dont want to be the cause of you being sad.

It was my best bet, but I was glad that Charles was able to let me use his computer last night :3 regular mail would not have been fun for once.

I will ask if Matthew will help me with Waya pics if we go again. I think there is a game that is coming-out that he wants so maybe then. I want Waya + goldfish

I will await further info~(though I may book my Amtrak ticket somewhat soon)

My aunt said it's not a problem. She'll also pick you up from the ferry and drop you off at the Amtrak. I believe I already gave you her phone number. Her email is woodburykate [at] yahoo [dot] com

Just so you're aware, if anything changes plan-wise or you need any assistance after this Tuesday, you'll have to contact me through Kun and contact Kate directly. (It would be nice if you contacted Kate directly at least once before you came anyway, if only to verify plans; she's very nice and laid-back and is also a Buffy and Star Trek fan. I hope you get along. And she has cats. ^^)

My parents and I will pick you up from the Albany station. 5:35 PM on 24 July.

I wouldn't worry too much about booking your Amtrak ticket ahead of time. Space shouldn't be an issue and they shouldn't charge you extra if you pay the day of. When I took the Amtrak, I remember I kept asking my mum if I shouldn't book my ticket ahead of time (because I can get paranoid about things like that), but she kept insisting that I wouldn't have any problem getting a ticket right before I left and I didn't.

In short, book it ahead of time if you want the extra security (I know the feeling!), but it's not essential. Also, I'm not sure what their refund policy is, so be sure you have everything you need to cross the border first.

Don't worry about packing a lot. Just some clothes, any special medication or bath supplies you need, and cosplays if you want to bring them (which can also be worn as regular clothes :p). Pretty much anything else we can probably find/buy here if you need it. We can also do laundry for you.

I feel the need to apologize for our house and our area. It's nowhere as nice as Kun's is. Or as comfortable.

Also unlike Kun, I don't have an actual bed with room for two. Hence, I'm not even sure where you'll be sleeping. We have four extra mattresses and plenty of extra bedding, but I'm not sure what you're used to or if you're sensitive to softness/firmness of mattresses (no double entendre intended). Really, you have two main options: you can sleep up in my room with me (the attic) or in the guest bedroom. The guest bedroom's fairly neat and has an actual bed in it. Moreover, the bed is a bunk bed, so we could both move down there if you wanted. However, it's right next to my parents' bedroom and even though my mum sleeps with earplugs, I'm not sure we could be that quiet.

The disadvantage with my bedroom is that I don't have any actual beds in it. I sleep on a mattress on the floor. We also have sleeping bags, although they'd be very warm for summer in the attic. It's also the hottest part of the house in the summer, though we could install the air conditioner. Moreover, it's also a bit messy and we'd have to rearrage; I don't think I'll be able to clean before PortCon and I'll only have one full day after Kun's, but I'll try to get what I can done.

The advantage is it's what I'm used to and most of my stuff is up there, not including my laptops. There's also a good amount of space -- just not on the floor. Finally, it's more removed from other places of the house and we don't have to worry quite as much about making noise (although we are still directly above my parents' bedroom).

You don't have to decide right now. Actually, it might be best if you decided after seeing the house. I just want to prepare you.

As for our house structure, we have four floors. In the bottom is the basement and main computer room. It's where my dad hangs out most of the day and works on his computers. There's also a weight set, the washer/dryer, ironing board, work bench, and food storage.

First floor. Kitchen (gas stove), half bathroom (toilet and sink only), dining room (my laptops and where I usually hang out; the only couch I consider comfortable in the house), living room (iguana cage, couch, books).

Second floor. Study (my mum's; also has an extra mattress), guest bedroom (with bunk bed, stuffed animals, and more books), bathroom (the only one with a shower/tub), TV room (TV, tapes, ski and bicycle workout machines).

Third floor. Attic, a.k.a. my room.

As for our area, there is a bit within walking distance: Collins' Park, Jumping Jacks (a locally-owned fast food place), the Scotia Library, a cinema, several Chinese restaurants, CVS (pharmacy), a few pizza and sandwich places, a small grocery store, a few playgrounds, and one elementary school, the junior high, and the high school. My parents don't mind if you want to make one or two trips to places nearby or if you want to come to the grocery store when my mum does her weekly shopping, but they'd rather not drive too much with gas prices the way they are.

Sooo . . . I think that covers everything. I want to make sure everything's set before I leave for PortCon and will call you tomorrow (with my mum available) after we finish dinner.
